Deviantart Meet in Austin
I know some of my homies who watch me are from the DFW area along with me, and I was just curious if anyone's going to the DevMeet in Austin! I can't decide what to do. I'd really love to go, and I think picking up and going on a mini road trip may do me some good, but it's like, 6 hours away, and I'd have to drive back that night, too! Or maybe stay in a motel and skip school the next day. Hmm, decisions, decisions.
I Am Officially an Art Instructor
Well, I say I'm a tutor, but the private company calls me their Art Instructor. I'm super excited, and a little nervous! I get to meet my first student and her mother this Friday, and then we have our first session on March 4th. I'm currently floundering around trying to round up some ideas and teaching aides. I think I may just make my own handouts or something, she mainly wants to learn how to draw faces, which is awesome, because I love doing that myself.
The only problem is, our first class is also on the day of my Portfolio Review on campus, so I'm going to be racing between cities. Gotta love the Metroplex, man. That, coupled with trying to get my portfolio together and filling out internship applications for the summer has got me really craving some Spring Break!
So, I finished my first series of five bound books last night, and learned the French Link Stitch. Let's just say I'm already in love. It's so relaxing and soothing, and I love the feeling of high quality paper between my fingers!
I recently bought a whole bunch of clearance handmade papers from this wonderful company online, and it came in yesterday. I didn't get to open it until today, and not only do I find all the beautiful papers nestled safely inside, I find this GORGEOUS handmade journal from tans with a skeleton leaf and hemp binding. Japanese stab stitch. I open it up and the papers are handmade, too! I adore it to pieces, and it's the nicest unexpected free gift, ever. I'm thinking of using it to keep my notes on different binding techniques, with illustrated guides and whatnot.
