Which Will You Feed

Description

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.

"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego." He continued, "The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Task: Create a stencil or stamp, and hand-stamp fabric. Then take that fabric, and create three forms that interact with one another somehow.

My stencil design, which I then stamped onto the fabric, is my name "Katherine" just written in the Cherokee alphabet, encompassed inside a medicine wheel.

I wanted to do something to honor my Cherokee ancestry. I don't often tell people, but I'm actually a tribesmember...I don't talk about it much because I feel I have no right to, since I live away from the Tribe, and know so little about my heritage and culture. I'm not pure-blooded.

So, I took my favorite Cherokee legend, and turned it into 3D! It was very hard and time consuming, but I enjoyed it greatly. You can't tell much, but there are magnets in the wolves' mouths, and in the dog bone, so they can fight over it.

The wolves look awesome and I like the story.
I am part Cherokee on my dad's side but I don't really know much about my heritage. Although, I love looking up the old Cherokee myths, so that I can try to memorize them.
